THINGS MUST CHANGE!
The world is drowning in 92 million tonnes of textile waste every year. Much of it is shipped from the Global North to the Global South, where it overwhelms landfills and harms communities.
In Kenya alone, 200,000 tonnes of second-hand clothing arrive annually — more than half ends up polluting the environment.
German start-up manaomea will launch the first impact microfactory in 2026. Using patented technology, they transform textile waste into a durable, recyclable tropical hardwood alternative.
Each year this results in:
- 50 tons of waste being recycled
- 1,150 tons of CO₂ being saved
- and fair jobs being created.
The project seeks €200,000 in funding; sponsorships start at €5,000.
